About this directory
A directory of independent businesses in Dublin, by category and area, with write-ups of our own. No star ratings, no user reviews, and paid content is always marked.
What it is
Dublin Favourites lists restaurants, cafés, pubs and bars, barbers and hair salons, beauty and aesthetic businesses, gyms and studios, dentists and tattoo studios across Dublin city and county. Each listing is placed in a category and an area (a Dublin postal district or a village), and where we have checked the business we add a short description written by us.
Where the data comes from
- Name, address, coordinates, opening hours and basic tags start from OpenStreetMap, published under the Open Database Licence. Map data is maintained by volunteers and can be out of date; we refresh it regularly and retire places that close.
- Website, phone, email and Instagram are taken from the map data and checked against the business's own website. We do not copy details from other directories or from Google.
- Descriptions are written by us from what the business says about itself on its own site. They describe what a place is and who it suits. They are not reviews and we do not rate anything.
- Area is derived from the Eircode routing key where the address has one (D02 is Dublin 2, A96 is Dún Laoghaire and so on), otherwise from the address.
How listings are ordered
Within every category and area page, places with a checked website and a write-up come first, then everything else, both groups alphabetically. Paying businesses are not moved up. The only thing money buys here is a labelled feature or a labelled premium listing, described below.
Partners and sponsored content
Partners are businesses we work with commercially. Dublin Favourites is run by Talaso BrandLab, which builds websites for some of them.
Three rules apply to every piece of paid content on this site:
- It is labelled. A business that pays for a feature or a premium listing carries a Partner tag on its listing and in every card where it appears. A paid article carries a Sponsored label at the top, naming the sponsor.
- We write it. Partners do not write or approve their write-ups. The facts come from the same sources as every other listing.
- It does not change the order of the normal listings, and it never buys a claim such as “best”, “top rated” or “recommended”.
This is how Irish consumer law expects advertising to be identified, and it is also how we would want it as readers.
Corrections and removals
If a listing is wrong, closed or should not be here, email hello@dublinfavourites.com with the page link. Business owners can also use the for business page. We normally reply within a few days.
Who runs it
Dublin Favourites is published by Talaso BrandLab, a small web studio that works with independent businesses in Ireland and Spain. The same team runs Who in Ireland, a directory of registered Irish service companies.
